Landscaping Fabric
Landscaping fabric is widely used in modern landscape gardening and without it many sites would simply not be suitable for landscaping. Landscaping fabric is a permeable fabric, meaning that it allows water to penetrate into the soil underneath, which holds the soil in place to allow an element of sculpturing.
Landscaping fabric has another advantage in that it is fantastic at suppressing weeds. There is nothing more annoying and tedious than having to clear the ground of perennial and annual weeds before embarking upon landscaping a patch of your garden. By covering the ground with Landscaping fabric for a long period prior to cultivation most of the weeds will have died off and removal of the remaining weeds will be far easier.
The fabric is designed to be easily cut to the desired size and shape using scissors, it should also be very easy to then cut holes in it where you want to plant your landscaping plants. Most Landscaping fabric is black so it is advisable to cover it with a generous mulch of tree bark or other suitable material to enhance it’s appearance and also to help retain moisture during the dryer periods of weather.
Heavy Duty Landscaping Fabric
It is possible to purchase a landscaping fabric that is much stronger than that which is usually available in the garden center (you may have to ask an assistant if they can order it for you). Obviously such material will last much longer but most will also stand being walked upon. Such material is made from UV stabilized woven black polypropylene which is permeable and highly suited for tougher areas of ground.
Besides being perfect for suppressing weeds and shaping the ground landscaping fabric is great for any sort of ground covering purpose. Being permeable it is ideal for use as flooring in a greenhouse, a standing area for garden pots and containers, or even the lining of a child’s sand pit.
Please Note: Remember when ordering landscaping fabric you will also need to purchase ground pegs or staples which should always be used to fix the material to the ground. Ground pages are usually plastic and can easily be reused several times. Ground staples are usually made from durable metal and have the added advantage that they fit plush to the ground making them most suitable for areas on which people are likely to walk.
