Landscape Lighting

Landscaped gardens continue to be one of the most popular ways in which to enhance the beauty of one’s home. The reasons for it’s continued popularity are multitude but the main two are for the fact that a carefully cared for, and well designed, garden can both add to the usefulness and beauty of your property (and therefore it is common to see a corresponding increase in the value of your house). However you can further enhance your home by adding strategically placed landscape lighting.

Landscape lighting is basically a lighting system which has been specifically designed for outdoor use and is commonly called simply “Outdoor Lighting”. With the addition of outdoor lighting you can create atmosphere while highlighting some of the most outstanding aspects of your garden design or your property. Furthermore adding outdoor landscape lighting to your garden will extend the amount of time in which you can enjoy your garden outside.

There are a great many different types of outdoor lighting available to the landscape designer, lighting systems vary from the ever so eco-friendly solar types to the power hungry floodlight systems required for larger properties, with an absolute plethora of types in between. Although the vast majority of landscape lighting systems are relatively easy to install and maintain it is always wise to seek advice (or at the very least read up on the subject a little beforehand).

If you really want to make the most of your landscaped garden with the addition of external lighting it is really most advisable to employ a professional landscape gardener/designer. By doing so you will benefit from the contractors, often immense, knowledge and experience. He will know, almost instantly, which systems would be most suitable for your type of garden and it’s location. He will also understand which aspects of your garden design are best highlighted directly with lights and which aspects are far more likely to benefit from only the lesser ambient light created by your landscape lighting system. One other, final note worth mentioning about the employment of a gardening professional to install your system is that you will have the, almost priceless, benefit of it being fully guaranteed, so, if anything was to go wrong the contractor will repair it for you (often without further cost).

Sadly not all of us are sufficiently wealthy to be able to afford such luxuries as having somebody else install our system and many of use will also have no option but to go with one of the many cheap outdoor lighting systems which seem to be flooding the market at the moment. However, if you are in this situation, you should be very, very careful as it is often the case that you get exactly what you pay for! I have, within the space of two seasons, worn out two such systems so this year I shall go without and save my cash until I can afford so better quality landscape lighting.

Billy Harris was a professional landscape gardener for many years but since retirement he spends most of his time tinkering in his own garden. During the winter months he writes articles for a small number of gardening sites.

Lighting ones garden is a brilliant idea to add beauty, esthetics and style to ones garden. The lights can enhance the natural attractiveness of plants and landscapes. Amazing valuable lighting designs are available in the garden lighting guide. Although solar lighting is much cheaper than the lamp shade lighting but its natural source is much beneficial for the plants. Information regarding automatic interactive lighting for garden can be obtained from the lighting vendors information centre.
