Getting started with water garden landscaping

If you want to make your garden look really attractive, then you should consider water garden landscaping. This can be as simple as a waterfall or fountain. One of the most impressive water features you can add is a fish pond. Having brightly colored fish such as koi carp swimming around your pond is a great sight to see. The gentle sound of water flowing in your garden can also add a sense of tranquility and peace.

There are a few things to be considered when planning your water garden landscaping. For instance, electricity maybe required to power any pumps. So this needs thinking about when deciding how far away from the property you decide to install the feature.

If you decide to go for a pond, once you decide where you want to place it, then you can start with the digging out. Obviously it depends on the size of your pond how much is required. Once the digging is complete, then a pond liner is used to make sure no water can escape from the pond. You can add attractive plants or paving around the edge of the pond to cover the top of the liner.

Once you are are happy with the design and layout of the pond, you can fill it with water. It is a good idea to leave it for a few days before adding any fish. This not only lets the water settle but also ensures that there are no leaks. The last thing you would want is to have to put your expensive fish into buckets while you fix any leaks!

Once your fish are added, then you can also then look at having plants that will live in the pond. This makes a more natural environment for the fish and also helps to add oxygen to the water. Just a few are needed as you don’t want the whole pond covering up because you won’t be able to see your fish!

You’ll need to perform maintenance on your pond from time to time in order to keep the water healthy for both fish and plants, as well as keeping it attractive for human viewers!
