Get the right wood for your landscaping jobs

One of the most important things to consider when landscaping with timber is to make sure that you purchase the right type. You need to ensure that the wood you use is properly treated for an outdoor environment. Whether you are putting down decking, making use of telephone poles to make a feature, building steps or a wooden outbuilding such as a shed, you should check with your supplier that they are providing properly treated timber.

If you do not use treated wood, you will have problems with decay, fungal and insect attack. There are a couple of options to consider – the easiest thing to do is to buy pre-treated timber. Alternatively, if this is not possible, you can get your timber treated by a specialist, or treat it yourself, if it is possible. This will depend on the nature of the item that needs treating. It’s always best to get specialist advice, particularly if you are working with expensive timber. The last thing you want to do is have to replace it after a year or two when it starts rotting.
