Adding interest to your garden landscaping
Your focal point could be a garden sculpture or a particular type of plant. If you cannot afford a specimen plant, adding block planting of a particular specimen is an alternative way to add a focal point in the garden. Even adding areas of varigated foliage can create a distinct focal point in your garden.
Using seating or other garden furniture is another way that can add interest to the garden whilst additionally offering a nice place to rest and relax while you admire your work!
Mirrors that are strategically placed can enhance the garden in many ways. They can bring reflected light to dark corners of the garden whilst also giving the impression that the garden is bigger than it actually is. Placed at differing angles, mirrors add a lot of interest to the garden and help to lead a visitor on to other areas.
Hedges also add interest to the garden while offering both privacy and protection to your plants.
Water features are a favorite for many people and the sound of running water in the corner of a garden can add an atmosphere of calm and relaxation. They are also good for birds, particularly in the summer months when they might find it difficult to find water from other sources.
As with sculptures, stones, gravel, rocks and pebbles add interest and offer areas where you can walk even when the surrounding ground might be too wet. Shells also make good ground cover.
There are many different things that you put in your garden to add interest. Other things to consider are old cartwheels, wind chimes and aviaries. Take a trip to your local boot sale and pick up some second hand gear to add interest to your garden.
